SlarsonTech LLC runs this website, slarsontech.com, from San Diego, California. This page explains what the site collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to understand how people find and use the site. If your device is set to a European time zone, or to none, we ask first, and Analytics runs only if you agree. Elsewhere it runs unless you turn it off. When it runs, it sets cookies on your device and records the pages you view, how far you scroll, the links you follow to other sites, and when you start or send a form (not what you type). It also records your browser, device, approximate location and the site that sent you here. Google Analytics does not store your IP address. We keep this data for 14 months and don't use it for advertising.
We remember your choice in your browser. You can change it at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the home page, and turning Analytics off also deletes its cookies. Google processes this data for us and may do so in the United States. Read how Google uses information from sites that use its services. You can also block these cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out add-on.
Newsletter
If you sign up for Notes from the work, we keep your email address, and your name if you give it, and send you an email to confirm. Signups that are never confirmed are deleted automatically within a few days. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in our emails, and unsubscribing deletes your details. Subscriber details are stored with Google Cloud in the United States, and our emails are sent through Resend.
Contact form
When you send a message, the site emails your name, email address and message to our inbox so we can reply. The website doesn't keep a copy. The form uses Google reCAPTCHA to keep out spam. It loads only once you start using the form, and Google's privacy policy and terms apply to it.
Hosting, logs and fonts
The site runs on Google Cloud. Like most websites, it records technical details of each request, such as your IP address, browser, the time and the page, and keeps them for up to 30 days for security and to keep the site running. To stop the forms being abused, it also keeps short-lived counters keyed to a scrambled (hashed) form of your IP address and email address, which delete themselves within a few days. The page's fonts load from Google Fonts, so your browser contacts Google when you visit.
What we don't do
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with anyone except the service providers named on this page, who process it for us.
Your choices
You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to correct or delete it, through the contact form. If you are in the EU or the UK, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Changes
When what the site collects changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
